The polished concrete loses its shine in a couple of months or it is too porous to use. If it requires replacing or redoing in 6 months’ then you have not saved your money but in fact the opposite as a well installed polished concrete is one of the most durable flooring options out there in the market that easily lasts many years. Before we dive in further, we need to point it out that polished concrete flooring isn’t an overly expensive if we compare it to other flooring options such as ceramic tile, porcelain tile & parquet flooring. Let’s now dig deep in this topic and look at the process of going about with a polished concrete flooring and what you should ask your concrete contractor before you start the installation. Polished concrete floors are made by a mechanical process of both grinding and polishing then proceeding to apply sealants and lithium densifier. Grit is the particle size of the diamond. Most of the grinding process starts from value of less than 100. Concrete Polishing Methods – The concrete can be polished in 2 different methods: Wet Method – During the grinding process, water is used to cool the diamond abrasives. This results in less dust during polishing process. This also reduces friction and the water acts as a lubricant, thus increasing the life of polished concrete flooring. Dry Method – No water is used during this process. The dust gathered from this method is vacuumed and this clears the mess along with this process. The dry method is used in industrial applications as this is more convenient, fast & environmentally friendly. We have often seen it many a times with our clients where other flooring contractors have done an incomplete or poor job just to save a few bucks. They have done this by jumping through the grits to save time and effort, leaving behind scratches that are unsightly and unattractive. You will need to use diamond tools of good quality to grind, hone and polish the concrete you will also need to chemically treat the slab with a concrete densifier and once all process has been completed, seal the concrete flooring with a stain guard. It’s not only used by children but most adults also love to use swings. There are 3 types of surface for this sport; porous concrete, cement & artificial turf. The latter material is the most widely used & accepted around the world & is the only one with the grain spread. The function of sand A sand’s function in this sport is more important than it seems. Polished Concrete – Is the investment worth it?

There are certain things which you should never compromise on: dental work, tattoos & quality flooring. One question that often comes to us is if polished concrete is expensive. And to be honest, it does look expensive given the final finish & look you can achieve from it. No wonder, the general public is skeptical about installing polished concrete. In the long run however, polished concrete stands on top due to its longevity & durability, making it more affordable than its counterparts. Here is why the investment is worth it. Choose the finish based on your budget The great thing about polished concrete is that you can achieve this finish in a number of different ways taking consideration of the final finish also your budget. For all polished concrete floors, the price heavily depends on the level of grinding. It is then sealed with a penetrating sealer to protect the surface. This method can withstand more heavy traffic as the sealer is penetrated within the concrete & bonded well with it. It is a more affordable option than polished concrete. Mechanically Polished Concrete Floors Then finally there is original polished concrete. The first time they applied a sufficient amount of mixture to cover the concrete surface. And when that mixture dried, they recoated it five times. With each coat, the surface started becoming smooth and durable. The whole process is done keeping in mind the weather conditions because high heat and humidity accelerate the setting time of the mixture. As a final step, the color was applied to give the cafeteria a modern and unique look, as you can see the pictures. Benefits of Micro-topping The following are some of the benefits of micro-topping that provide you a durable finish surface. It’s easy to apply, and there is no need for additional additives. These are just some of the most FAQs we receive regularly from our customers. Generally speaking, we always recommend to have infill as this provides stability and resilience to the playing field. But in some situations, you do not need infill and this is where we uncover why you do need infill and in which instances you do require non infill. Infill or without infill; which one to decide? Non infill football grass Non infill durability Why use infill for artificial turf? Infill provides a structure for the fibers of artificial turf, helping the fibers to keep firm. The fibers naturally lay flat, however after adding infill (quartz sand, rubber crumb or both), they are affirm. Infill provides a cushion effect when stepping over the turf. This protects roots of the fibers as well as adding resilience to the artificial turf. Usually, an infill system can withstand more foot traffic than its counterpart non infill under the same conditions. Infill provides primary backing from UV exposure and it also helps to extend the useful life of your artificial turf product. The left picture shows the non infill artificial turf and the right one requires infill. The fibers of the right picture will fall flat without any infill present. What is non artificial turf? Our non artificial turf has frizzy fibers also known as Thatch; narrow gauge and high stitch rate. The frizzy fibers are functioning to make the fibers stand and to provide resistance and durability. 3 key factors for non artificial turf: With thatch in the root zone Narrow gauge High stitch rate Non artificial grass should be dense enough & flexible enough to support high traffic. Infill or without infill; which one to decide? It depends on the conditions of your project – Landscape & play area If just for landscape or not for much foot traffic, you can use any sort of artificial turf. Usually it’s the non infill that is used for such purposes. In high traffic areas is better to use silica sand which extends the life of the product. However even for high traffic areas, non infill can be considered on the following applications: Garden contains severe slopes Play area for kids and pets You would like to include artificial turf around swimming pool Football fields Almost all traditional artificial turf system for a football field requires silica sand and rubber granules. The fibers naturally lay flat without the infill material. Silica sand & rubber granules work together to provide a stable and flexible surface. Non infill artificial turf Our non infill artificial turf range combines the newest and unique yarn and tuft design to create high quality & low maintenance football pitch. It is recommended to lay this down on a shock pad. Shorter blades makes it ideal for multi sport pitches, training pitches & 5 a side football. Non infill durability As explained above, infill provides a ‘cushion’ effect to the playing field & that ‘thatch’ which is used in noninfill artificial grass, has a similar effect but is it enough? If 5 a side or 3 a side or for training pitches, then non infill is a suitable option.
